Italian Keycaps & Custom ISO-IT Layouts

An Italian keyboard needs the right accented characters and symbol positions as well as physical ISO keys. A generic English QWERTY set can fit some letters while leaving everyday Italian typing hard to follow.

An ANSI-only keycap set can leave an ISO keyboard with a missing Enter key, the wrong left Shift or unsuitable printed symbols. Start with the keyboard you own, then choose the physical keys and legends together.

What to check for your local layout

  • Provide the accented vowels you need, including à, è, é, ì, ò and ù where they appear in your intended layout. Include punctuation and secondary symbols rather than relying on a generic Italian label.
  • Confirm your exact Windows, Mac or other Italian input map. The positions of symbols such as @ and € should be copied from your chosen reference, not assumed from another regional set.
  • For 65%, 75% or other compact boards, check right Shift and the bottom row against the model diagram. ISO-IT legends do not guarantee that a full-size kit fits a compact keyboard.

Check three things before choosing a set

Physical layout

ISO describes key shapes and positions, including the tall Enter key and the extra key beside the shorter left Shift. Changing keycaps cannot turn an ANSI keyboard into an ISO keyboard.

Printed legends

The letters and symbols on the keycaps must match the layout you want. An ISO Enter key alone does not make a set German, French, Spanish or Italian.

Input settings

Your operating system decides which characters appear when you type. Replacing keycaps does not change that setting; select the matching input layout on your computer.

How DIYKeycap can help

DIYKeycap can work on custom ISO keycaps with German QWERTZ, French AZERTY, Spanish or Italian legends. Send your exact model and desired character map so we can confirm the keys, sizes and printable design for your project. This is a custom specification service; the examples below are not proof that every regional set is ready to ship.

Our listed Custom Keycaps Set uses PBT, a plastic used for keycaps, a Cherry profile and dye-sublimation printing. Its listed options include 129-key ANSI and 156-key ANSI/ISO coverage. Key count is a starting point, not a compatibility guarantee: compare the actual included keys and row positions with your keyboard.

A practical way to request the right set

  1. Send your keyboard model

Include the exact model or version and a clear overhead photo. A product link or the manufacturer's layout diagram helps us identify non-standard keys.

  2. List the keys that matter

Check Enter, left and right Shift, spacebar and the keys around it. A size such as 1u means the width of a normal letter key; wider keys use multiples of that unit. If you are unsure, send a photo rather than guessing.

  3. Confirm the legends

Provide a screenshot or file of your intended character map, including accents, punctuation and secondary symbols. Specify the operating-system input layout you use.

  4. Choose the design

Tell us the colours, artwork and whether you need a full set or a particular project specification. Confirm the row profile, switch mount and available key sizes before ordering.

  5. Review the project details

We will confirm the feasible specification and purchasing route. Price, minimum quantity, sample arrangements, production time, packaging and delivery are confirmed for the project.

Common questions

Can I use an ANSI set on my ISO keyboard?

Some letter keys may fit, but an ANSI-only kit may lack ISO Enter, the shorter left Shift and the extra key beside it. Check the complete key diagram before buying.

Does a 156-key set guarantee compatibility?

No. You still need the right key sizes, row profiles, mounts and legends. Compact keyboards and unusual bottom rows deserve a separate check.

Can I order matching sets for a team?

Yes, we accept business and bulk projects. If the team uses different keyboards or countries, separate them by model and layout so each person receives the right keys. Minimum quantities depend on the confirmed production route.
